Smart brake uses built-in encoder

Many brakes rely on external encoder/decoders, which increases the overall size of the braking system and adds complexity.

The new Smart Brake from Dings Co., Milwaukee (www.dingsbrakes.com), includes a hollow-shaft incremental encoder which provides continuous feedback for speed, direction, and positioning. Output from the encoder can be sent to PLCs, or vector drives and variable-speed controllers. The brake can be configured with torque ratings ranging from 1.5 to 175 lb-ft to fit NEMA C-Face motors from 56C though 286TC. There are three available enclosures, standard, water, and washdownproof, and one for hazardous locations.
